The Sky Over Budapest – Focus on Wim Wenders
Introduction by: Rita Boronyák, Researcher-Archivist, NFI – Film Archive
Philip Winter, a German journalist suffering artistic block, is at New York airport when he meets nine-year-old Alice and her mother. However, the woman soon disappears leaving a message for the man asking him to take her daughter back to Europe. So begins Alice and Philip’s adventure from the skyscrapers of America to the archaic houses of the Ruhr region. It is a story about friendship, home and finding oneself. This early Wenders film, which could be the European twin of Paper Moon, reveals through beautiful black and white pictures a familiar world from a new angle.
